Nutrition Services
Our mission
The mission of Crater’s nutrition program is to help alleviate food insecurity among seniors in the District 19 Service Area by providing nutritious meals, as well as health and nutrition education to homebound seniors and individuals who attend senior centers.
Senior Farmer's Market
The purpose of this program is to provide fresh fruit, vegetables, and nutrition education to eligible senior participants. The program also supports local farmers and farmers' markets in Virginia. This program runs from May through October annually.
Senior Centers
Opportunities are provided for seniors to socialize and share a nutritious meal with other seniors in a safe environment. Recreational activities such as music/dance therapy, bingo, chair exercise, and wellness presentations are available for participants as well as occasional trips and outings. Transportation is also provided for those who need it to and from the facility.
Home delivered meals
Our home delivered meals are pre-packaged or chilled and have been designed by registered dietitians to meet or exceed the requirements associated with the Required Daily Allowance and the Dietary Reference Intake for older adults. The five complete meals consist of a variety of entrees, fruits, juices, breads, and milk that are conveniently delivered to homebound seniors.
