Executive Director Needed
Crater District Area Agency on Aging (CDAAA) is seeking a highly qualified professional to serve as the Executive Director. CDAAA provides senior services in the cities of Colonial Heights, Emporia Hopewell, Petersburg, and the counties of Dinwiddie, Greensville, Prince George, Surry, and Sussex. As a leading advocate for all seniors, the director must provide strong leadership to grow and enhance the current programs as well as possess the vision to create a futuristic strategic plan. Responsibilities include the areas of administration, personnel, financial oversight, and collaboration with public and governmental agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Leads all aspects of planning, formulating policies, managing daily operations, seeking and coordinating the use of resources for sustainability.
2. Prepares and oversees the development and monitoring of budgets and work plans.
3. Directs the preparation and implementation of the agency’s annual Area Plan for Aging Services.
4. Oversees and is responsible for the receipt, safekeeping, and maintenance of auditable accounts of all agency funds and disbursing those funds as directed by the Governing Board.
5. Oversees the hiring and firing of personnel. Oversees personnel administration as authorized by the Governing Board.
6. Oversees the negotiation of contracts and other agreements with the approval of the Governing Board as may be necessary to administer the agency’s programs and achieve stated objectives.
7. Establishes close working relationships with local governments, local human services agencies, other Area Agencies on Aging, the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, and other state and federal agencies.
8. Assists in the development of the agenda for the Board of Directors and Advisory Council meetings to ensure necessary items are included.
9. Oversees the provision of public information services, including public speaking engagements, and may serve on various city, county, and regional agency boards or councils to promote coordination and communication. Respects the agency as a visible advocate.
10. Performs other duties as required.
Skills and Knowledge
The Executive Director must have the:
1. Ability to raise awareness of the agency to ensure the expansion of the programs and services.
2. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships among staff, non-profit sectors, and community leaders.
3. Ability to direct and effectively supervise personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
4. Ability to monitor and report on policies and programs that address the needs of older individuals.
The Executive Director must have the:

Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, gerontology, social work, or related field is required. A graduate degree is strongly preferred. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted at the Board of Director’s discretion. Experience in aging or human services at the management level and experience with resource development is preferred. Five years of demonstrated management experience in non-profit or business management positions.
